Nowadays, the ground radar systems are mostly used for controlling airspace or making weather images. These systems consist of large antenna, a lot of the electronic equipment and very powerful computational unit. Smaller versions of these systems are often carried on the board of planes but still they are quite complex devices. Much simpler versions of the systems mentioned above but still using the same basic principles are small compact devices for measuring Target RCS or Target detection. In these applications, small size embedded SDR radar can be used. Then real time processing of a radar signal can also be much simpler. For the above mentioned simple applications, it is possible and reasonable to have small devices with low power consumption that perform real time correlation based processing. Typical today's embedded FPGA based SDR solutions have enough computational performance and their electric input is also very low. Moreover, the dimensions of the processor boards are very compact and they can be easily integrated into very small cases. That's why it is good to transfer radar signal processing algorithms to the embedded system. The recent development in the digital Radar is now molded in these SDR systems. Our motivation is to design a Spread Spectrum based digital SDR radar which is very small in size and may be a low cost solution where we can bypass all the huge instrumentation complexity. This type of solution is now popular for defense organizations, even can be used in human daily life.

SMS Tracking System with Doppler Radar to Enhance Car Security for Intelligent Transport System

By Subhankar Shome Rabindra Nath Bera

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijisa.2015.02.07, Pub. Date: 8 Jan. 2015

The World report on road traffic injury prevention presents some assessments and conclusions regarding road traffic accidents, in which they state that more than 1.2 million deaths per year occur on the world’s roads and around 50 million more of injured people. To prevent this people are working for intelligent transport system (ITS). ITS is trying to make an intelligent car which will be able to avoid collation. In this paper we have tried to add a new goal in ITS system which will be activated in the intelligence fails. This SMS system will help to locate a car using GPS, if the car collides. Our total development work is divided into two parts. In first part we have tried to develop a system which will help the driver by providing the road scenario using dopple radar. Doppler radar will measure the velocity of the nearby car or passing by car, depending upon the information our car will be controlled. In second part of development we have developed a auto generated SMS sending system to a specific number if the Car collide. Both systems are described in details in next part of this article.

Moving Target Detection and Doppler Extraction Using Digital Spread Spectrum Radar

By Subhankar Shome Rabindra Nath Bera Samarendra Nath Sur Rabi Adhikary

In this paper, we discuss a Spread Spectrum based radar system for car detection in the road and autonomous guidance of vehicles. An autonomous intelligent vehicle has to perform a number of functionalities. Segmentation of the road, determining the boundaries to drive in and recognizing the vehicles and obstacles around are the main tasks for vision guided vehicle navigation. In this article we propose a set of algorithms which lead to the solution of road and vehicle collision using carrier recovery method from car velocity using DSSS RADAR. In such a spread spectrum system, the transmitted signal is spread over a larger bandwidth, which is much wider than the minimum bandwidth required to transmit the information. Automotive radar systems can take advantage of spread spectrum techniques because of their interference rejection, immunity from noise and multipath distortion, and high resolution ranging properties. In addition, there is no need for high-speed, fast-settling frequency synthesizers. Moreover, spread spectrum techniques can improve the reliability of automotive radars. The data from different sensors on different cars can be combined in order to observe the complete car environment. Thus a spread spectrum radar system will allow sharing the same bandwidth also for data link needed by car-to-car communication systems. The algorithm described here is to recover Doppler frequency using 2P power method from which we are able to detect the vehicle condition in road.
