DVBS2 System Using SDR in Hardware-in-Loop Mode

By Soumyasree Bera Samarendra Nath Sur

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijwmt.2017.02.04, Pub. Date: 8 Mar. 2017

Digital Video Broadcasting- Satellite 2nd generation (DVBS2) is one of the popular source of entertainment in today's world. It has made TV viewing superb experience due to its ability of sharing high quality picture (i.e. High Definition). But the satellite channel basically follows AWGN type of response as there is lesser chances of multipath generation. The following paper deals with the implementation of the DVBS2 system in Software Defined Radio (SDR) platform and further analysis of its performance both in terms of bit error rate (BER) and actual multimedia transfer capability over different channel conditions like AWGN, and also under multipath condition i.e. Rician channel. All the analysis in the paper is done in hardware-in-loop mode.

Embedded Digital SISO Radar using Wireless Open Access Research Platform for Object Detection and RCS Measurement

By Subhankar Shome Rabindranath Bera Bansibadan Maji Samarendra Nath Sur Soumyasree Bera

Nowadays, the ground radar systems are mostly used for controlling airspace or making weather images. These systems consist of large antenna, a lot of the electronic equipment and very powerful computational unit. Smaller versions of these systems are often carried on the board of planes but still they are quite complex devices. Much simpler versions of the systems mentioned above but still using the same basic principles are small compact devices for measuring Target RCS or Target detection. In these applications, small size embedded SDR radar can be used. Then real time processing of a radar signal can also be much simpler. For the above mentioned simple applications, it is possible and reasonable to have small devices with low power consumption that perform real time correlation based processing. Typical today's embedded FPGA based SDR solutions have enough computational performance and their electric input is also very low. Moreover, the dimensions of the processor boards are very compact and they can be easily integrated into very small cases. That's why it is good to transfer radar signal processing algorithms to the embedded system. The recent development in the digital Radar is now molded in these SDR systems. Our motivation is to design a Spread Spectrum based digital SDR radar which is very small in size and may be a low cost solution where we can bypass all the huge instrumentation complexity. This type of solution is now popular for defense organizations, even can be used in human daily life.

Performance Analysis of VBLAST Based MIMO OFDM System in Vehicular Channel

By Samarendra Nath Sur Soumyasree Bera Arun Kumar Singh Rabindranath Bera B.Maji

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijisa.2014.12.09, Pub. Date: 8 Nov. 2014

Vehicular communication is emerging as an important ingredient for successful implement of Intelligent Transportation Systems(ITS). But the development of suitable communications systems plays an important role in mobility condition. The desired system should support dynamic wireless exchange of data between nearby vehicles or road side infrastructure. In this regards multiple input and multiple output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency domain multiplexing (OFDM) system is possibly the best solution. This paper deals with the performance analysis of the MIMO OFDM system in Nakagami-m channel with Doppler shift and also partial hardware implementation of baseband signal processing.
