DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijem.2011.03.01, Pub. Date: 5 Jun. 2011

Recent years, the significant advantage has been taken by ceramic industrial from the strong evolution in automation. All production phases have been addressed through various technical innovations, with the exception of the final stage of the manufacturing process. When applying computer vision on ceramic product quality inspection, the different kind of product of ceramic makes it difficult, especially on ceramic bowls, which have a curved surface. It is difficult to analyze rapidness and catch the production rate. This paper proposed an approach for automatic surface imperfection inspection of ceramic products. The bowl’s curved surface unfolding model was discussed derived from helicoid unfolding method. Experiment shows that this method can be nicety.

A New Method of Signature Verification Based on Biomimetic Pattern Recognition Theory

By Yan Wu Hui Geng Xiao-yue Bian

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijem.2011.03.02, Pub. Date: 5 Jun. 2011

Aim at the difficulty and low recognition rate of signature verification, this paper introduces biomimetic pattern recognition theory and applies it to the problem. According to the features of the signature samples, the coverage in the high-dimension feature space is built, one class of samples are all covered with a super-sausage neuron chain. As the radius selection of the super-sausage neurons maybe unreasonable, unwanted area may be covered and correct recognition rate will reduce. So this paper uses the relationship of the distance between the two training samples and the average distance of all the neurons to adjust the radius of the super-sausage neuron automatically. Finally, the experiments show that compared to traditional pattern recognition method, biomimetic pattern recognition theory used in signature verification have a better recognition result and is more effective.

By Gaoming Ding

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijem.2011.03.03, Pub. Date: 5 Jun. 2011

Automobile idle adjuster is mainly used to make the idle speed of engine be constant and reduce oil cost when automobile is in idle moving, which can increase idle speed and prevent engine from stopping. Automobile idle adjuster controls idle speed by controlling the mode of throttle valve channel. It also can increase idle speed automatically when the engine load is bigger. This can be happen when the air-conditioning unit, power steering or torque converter is introduced. In this paper, we mainly studied the effect, structure, working principle about step motor mode fro automobile idle adjuster. We also introduced the improvement about traditional automobile idle adjuster.

Thermal Enhancement of Capsaicin on Target Tissue Involved in Hyperthermia

By Peng Zeng Zhong-Shan Deng Jing Liu

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijem.2011.03.06, Pub. Date: 5 Jun. 2011

Local thermal enhancement in target tissue is of great interest in tumor hyperthermia. In this study, we proposed a brand-new thermal enhancement protocol for tumor hyperthermia using heat generated from thermogenesis of capsaicin, which can safely deliver a totally localized heating to target tissue. A healthy male volunteer was recruited, whose partial areas of opisthenar and forearm were smeared with 1% (w/w) capsaicin solution, to determine the increase of thermogenesis in local area of human body. In addition, animal experiments on several healthy Kunming (KM) mice (20-22g) were performed to test the feasibility of this capsaicin based thermal enhancement method. Preliminary experiments on the volunteer showed an effective temperature increase in the skin area smeared with capsaicin solution. Animal experiments indicated that distinct enhancement in heating effect presents in the target tissue of mice where capsaicin solution was introduced. The thermal enhancement ability of capsaicin, therefore, suggests that capsaicin can be used as a potential therapeutic adjuvant to locally enhance heating effects in target tissue during tumor hyperthermia.

Texture based Anisotropic Diffusion for Real Ultrasound Image Despeckling

By Jie Huang Xiaoping Yang

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijem.2011.03.07, Pub. Date: 5 Jun. 2011

This paper presents a new texture based anisotropic diffusion method for real ultrasound image despeckling. Texture information is obtained by a real ultrasound image model. Unlike traditional anisotropic diffusion methods usually taking image gradient as a diffusion index, we take the image texture as a new diffusion index. The results comparing our new method with others on both simulated image and real ultrasound images are reported, and our method shows the superiority in keeping important features of real ultrasound images.

Research of the QoC-Aware Service Selection for Middleware Based Pervasive Applications

By Di Zheng Hang Yan Jun Wang

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijem.2011.03.09, Pub. Date: 5 Jun. 2011

With the rapid development of information technology, it is inevitable that the distributed mobile computing will evolve to the pervasive computing gradually whose final goal is fusing the information space composed of computers with the physical space in which the people are working and living in. Furthermore, with the development of SOA, more and more pervasive applications have been composed of different kinds of services. So how to choose a suitable service from all the useable services is the most important step for pervasive computing. Compare to the traditional service selection we must take more care of the context as well as the quality of them in pervasive environment. However, most of existing researches pay no attention to QoC (Quality of Service) which may lead to unreliable selections. Therefore we proposed a middleware based service selection scheme to support QoC-aware service selection efficiently.

Post-craniectomy Intracranial Pressure Dynamics:A Novel Compartmental Model of Generalized Monro-Kellie Principle

By Ketong Wang Yun Ding Xinyuan Zhang Xiaoyang Zhou

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijem.2011.03.10, Pub. Date: 5 Jun. 2011

A model of post-craniectomy intracranial pressure dynamics is proposed in this article. Defining the craniectomy distensible volume the original Monro-Kellie principle is generalized. A craniectomy compartment is added to traditional intracranial system including blood, cerebrospinal fluid, and brain parenchyma. The system equation of generalized Monro-Kellie principle is solved with 4th order runge-kutta method. Volume of the new compartment is calculated with deflection solution. The model verifies that abnormal morphology of intracranial pressure (systolic value-21mmHg and diastolic value-13mmHg) in hypertension can be reduced to a normal range (systolic value-14.5mmHg and diastolic value-13mmHg) with decompressive craniectomy. Additionally the ICP-DC Size curve provides an effective interval (about 80-200 square centimeters) of craniectomy size for practice of decompressive craniectomy.

By Zhang Wei Xia Li-min

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijem.2011.03.11, Pub. Date: 5 Jun. 2011

In this paper, a novel approach is proposed for recognizing pain expression. First of all, supervised locality preserving projections (SLPP) is adopted for extracting feature of pain expression, which can solve the problem that LPP ignores the within-class local structure using adopting prior class label information, and then multiple kernels support vector machines (MKSVM) is employed for recognizing pain expression, Compared to SVM, which can improve the interpretability of decision function and classifier performance. Experimental results are shown to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
