Decision Mathematics as Preparation for Undergraduate Computer Science

In England and Wales, students commonly take what are called Advanced ‘A’ level examinations in their final two years of secondary school. Good passes in these examinations are required to be accepted onto university degree courses. 123 Computer Science students from 24 different UK universities participated in an online survey about their perceptions and experiences of A-level Mathematics and A-level Further Mathematics as preparation for the mathematical component of their degree. The majority reported that decision mathematics units that they had studied as part of either qualification had been good preparation for their degree. Additionally, those who had taken the Further Mathematics qualification were positive about their experience and its utility as preparation for undergraduate Computer Science. A-levels in Mathematics and Further Mathematics in England and Wales are currently undergoing significant reform. One of the major changes will see the removal of Decision Mathematics as an optional topic in A-level Mathematics, meaning that students who wish to study it must take Further Mathematics – a much less commonly studied subject. Consequently, this research might encourage admissions tutors to reconsider their admissions requirements for undergraduate Computer Science.

Strategies of Nonsolidary Behavior in Teaching Organization

A system of interpersonal relationship and its modeling in the form of finite noncooperative game is studied in this article by means of payoff functions. In such games for the main principle of optimality Nash’s Equilibrium Situation is acknowledged. The stages of development of Game Theory are analyzed including the modern situation. Two groups – nonsolidary and solidary of different behaviors characterized for the relationship are defined. The strategies of nonsolidary behavior characterized for the strategic relationships of the players are described and the strategies of solidary behavior are connected with negotiations and agreements. Teaching organization is defined as a management of system comprising a teacher (professor) and collective of pupils (students). Risk Reduction Activities Identification in Software Component Integration for Component Based Software Development (CBSD)

In the modern era, the ideas related to software developments are totally replaced the old traditional software development to CBSD. CBSD is the approach that can provide reusability of components to develop new software under minimum chances of risks. Beyond the CBSD features, there are still some significant risks overall the development phase. Generally, the quality of a developed software is depending upon the component integration phase. Nevertheless, component integration phase plays a tremendous role in the success of CBSD that leads to develop new risk free software. The objective of this research was to identify all the risks in CBSD and applied risk reduction activities to mitigate these risks. On the basis of the literature survey, categorized the risks into different categories. For this, an online questionnaire was performed to identify the risks and the risk reduction activities. 85% results point out that CBSD approach is the best approach as compared to the traditional approach. 80% results show that it performs the risk reduction activities, then the quality of the product improves. However, it is a step towards the mitigation of the vulnerabilities and reducing the cost of maintenance.

A Network-Based Peer Evaluation Strategy

The purpose of this study was to design a network-based peer evaluation strategy -which included two types of peer evaluation (known and unknown) to investigate the effect of these two types on developing problem-solving and critical thinking skills for students in Java object oriented programming language course (OOP). The participants of this study were twenty-four (n=24) students at College of Science and Arts, Qassim university. The results revealed that the two types of peer evaluation (in both known and unknown) had a positive effect on developing problem-solving and critical thinking skills for students. After, the comparison between the post-application of the two experimental groups in the problem solving and critical thinking skills, although there is a slightly higher between mean ranks in the sake of the unknown group, the results showed that there were no significant differences between the two groups. Finally, the researcher recommended to using a network-based peer evaluation strategy with other specializations and a large sample.

ICT in Higher Education: Wiki-based Reflection to Promote Deeper Thinking Levels

The main purpose of higher education is to produce skilled graduates so that they can think critically and solve real world problems. Presenting a group based solution in a face-to-face class is a common activity in the higher education classroom where other students/peers can actively participate in the follow-up question/answer sessions. Working out a solution together as a group engages students’ independent thinking ability and promotes active learning. This means, that they have the opportunity to reflect on their own thinking and take it to deeper levels of thinking. However, recent trends show that online support to the higher education class - a form of blended learning is growing day by day. This paper proposes a wiki-based (one of the ICT tools) reflection method to follow up regular existing face-to-face classroom presentation activities to promote deeper thinking levels of students in higher education. In this article, Lee’s Model of thinking levels is-used for analyzing the thinking levels of students during their wiki work. The findings of this research work (through experiments) show that the wiki-based reflection method could be an effective way to promote thinking levels of students and hence can be used as a blended learning model to promote reflective and in-depth thinking.

Design and Development of IoT Device to Measure Quality of Water

The conventional method of measuring the quality of water is to take the samples manually and send it to laboratory for analysis. This technique is time overwhelming and not economical. Also it is not feasible to take the water sample to the laboratory after every hour for measuring its quality. To overcome from these problems a new system is proposed in this work. This water quality measuring system will measure the essential qualities of water in real time. The proposed system consists of multiple sensors to measure the standard of water, Raspberry Pi 2 and Ethernet Local Area Network (LAN) to send the information to the controlling center. It's a real time system which is able to endlessly measure the standard of water and send the measured values to the controlling center in each predefined time. The system relies on sensors, Raspberry Pi 2 and Internet.

A Study of Time Series Models ARIMA and ETS

The aim of the study is to introduce some appropriate approaches which might help in improving the efficiency of weather’s parameters. Weather is a natural phenomenon for which forecasting is a great challenge today. Weather parameters such as Rainfall, Relative Humidity , Wind Speed , Air Temperature are highly non-linear and complex phenomena, which include statistical simulation and modeling for its correct forecasting. Weather Forecasting is used to simplify the purpose of knowledge and tools which are used for the state of atmosphere at a given place. The expectations are becoming more complicated due to changing weather state. There are different software and their types are available for Time Series forecasting. Our aim is to analyze the parameter and do the comparison of some strategies in predicting these temperatures. Here we tend to analyze the data of given parameters and to notice their predictions for a particular period by using the strategy of Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) and Exponential Smoothing (ETS) .The data from meteorological centers has been taken for the comparison of methods using packages such as ggplot2, forecast, time Date in R and automatic prediction strategies which are available within the package applied for modeling with ARIMA and ETS methods. On the basis of accuracy we tend to attempt the simplest methodology and then we will compare our model on the basis of MAE, MASE, MAPE and RMSE. An identification of model will be the chromatic checkup of both the ACF and PACF to hypothesize many probable models which are going to be projected by selection criteria i.e. AIC, AICc and BIC.
