Use of Project Management Information System to Initiate the Quality Gate Process for ERP Implementation

Non-conformance to quality in a project often can lead to a major reason for project failure resulted in not meeting the triple constraints of project management, scope, time and cost. To prevent it from happening, a quality check against the standard for quality needs to be conducted at the critical stages of ERP implementation project. Proactive quality management by the quality gate process is embedded in the implementation methodology to help secure quality outcomes for the customers. However, getting the schedule of each quality gate timely fixed by the independent quality reviewer with the project manager of a newly started project can often be problematic without having a systematic approach implemented. Recent research has provided an application with the use of project management information systems (PMIS) for such implementations in improvement of quality management systems requirements [1]. This article describes how PMIS was used to implement the project quality gate process for ERP implementation projects conducted by the solution provider for their customers in the various industries in Japan. PMIS was found to be effective in identifying, notifying and influencing the project managers to timely initiate the quality gate process based on the schedule fixed for each quality gate review.

Multi-Platform Code Generation Supported by Domain-Specific Modeling

Code generation is widely used to make software development more efficient and less prone to human errors. A significant use case of code generation is processing of Domain-Specific Languages (DSLs) and Domain-Specific Models (DSMs). Sometimes, it is desired to generate semantically equivalent or similar functionality to different languages to better support multiple platforms and achieve better reuse in the tooling. For example, it is convenient if a single tool supports code generating from a DSM to either Java or C#. There has been relevant research on using modeling and model transformations for code generation to multiple platforms. The Model-Driven Architecture (MDA) inherently supports multi-platform code generation based on models. Nevertheless, the MDA standard is a high-level general framework that includes standards, notions and principles but does not specify more concrete methods or workflows about their efficient adoption. Our research focuses on the efficient and practically usable application of MDA principles to generate multi-platform code. This paper reports on our results on multi-platform code generation and the difficulties that we are about to addressed in future research. The approach and the challenges presented in the paper are useful for tool developers, such as developers of DSLs, who generates code for several platforms.

Improving the Serviceability of a Prepaid Autorickshaw Counter using Queuing Model: An Optimization Approach

Overcharging the passengers who are not familiar with the city for the services in railway stations and airport is a serious problem which can be addressed by installing prepaid counters. Prepaid counters encounter the problem of higher passenger frequency due to which the waiting time increases. The only alternative solution to this problem is queue formation for effective service. In most of the cases, only one counter for service is available due to which the queue length increases; thereby the passengers may lose patience and move away which may lead to the loss to the counter. In this paper, queuing model is used to solve this real case scenario in an optimal way. The experimental data were obtained from the counter and derived using Little’s Theorem and Single Server Queuing Model (M/M/1). Hence an attempt was made in studying the benefits of queuing model and optimizing it to minimize the waiting time thereby increasing the profit. This approach will help a busy prepaid autorickshaw counter to give service to passengers in a most feasible way.

The SEIQR–V Model: On a More Accurate Analytical Characterization of Malicious Threat Defense

Epidemic models have been used in recent times to model the dynamics of malicious codes in wireless sensor network (WSN). This is due to its open nature which provides an easy target for malware attacks aimed at disrupting the activities of the network or at worse, causing total failure of the network. The Susceptible-Exposed-Infectious-Quarantined-Recovered–Susceptible with a Vaccination compartment (SEIQR-V) model by Mishra and Tyagi is one of such models that characterize worm dynamics in WSN. However, a critical analysis of this model and WSN epidemic literature shows that it is absent essential factors such as communication range and distribution density. Therefore, we modify the SEIQR-V model to include these factors and to generate better reproduction ratios for the introduction of an infectious sensor into a susceptible sensor population. The symbolic solutions of the equilibriums were derived for two topological expressions culled from WSN literature. A suitable numerical method was used to solve, simulate and validate the modified model. Simulation results show the effect of our modifications.

Image Retrieval using Hypergraph of Visual Concepts

Retrieving images similar to query image from a large image collection is a challenging task. Image retrieval is most useful in the image search engine to find images similar to the query image. Most of the existing graph based image retrieval methods capture only pair-wise similarity between images. The proposed work uses the hypergraph approach of the visual concepts. Each image can be represented by combination of the several visual concepts. Visual concept is the specific object or part of an image. There are several images in the database which can share multiple visual concepts. To capture such a relationship between group of images hypergraph is used. In proposed work, each image is considered as a vertex and each visual concept as a hyperedge in a hypergraph. All the images sharing same visual concept, form a hyperedge. Images in the dataset are represented using hypergraph. For each query image visual concept is identified. Similarity between query image and database image is identified. According to these similarities association scores are assigned to images, which will handle the image retrieval.

A Study on the Diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease using Digitized Wacom Graphics Tablet Dataset

Parkinson Disease is a neurological disorder, which is one of the most painful, dangerous and non-curable diseases, which occurs at older ages. The Static Spiral Test, Dynamic Spiral Test and Stability Test on Certain Point records were used in the application which was developed for the diagnosis of this disease. These datasets were divided into 80-20% training and testing data respectively within the framework of 10-fold cross validation technique. Training data as the input data were sent to the Random Forest, Logistic Regression and Artificial Neural Networks classifier algorithms. After this step, performances of these classifier algorithms were evaluated on testing data. Also, new data analysis was carried out. According to the results obtained, Artificial Neural Networks is more successful than Random Forest and Logistic Regression algorithms in analysis of new data.

Web Services for Transforming e-Cultural Heritage Management in Tanzania

Globally, applications of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in services management and delivery have positively transformed various sectors of economies. Similar transformations have been witnessed in Tanzania, where mobile money and the Internet have transformed the way businesses are done. However, the transformations have not taken place across all sectors of the Tanzanian economy with some sectors lagging further behind than others. Cultural heritage sector, in particular, has been slow in leveraging ICT to transform the delivery of services.    The sector is characterized by poor consumption of heritage sites and artworks, neglect, low publicity, weak branding, to mention a few. Although the achieved level of skills in Internet and Web have enabled the proliferation of many useful Websites which offer services to the public, information gathering remains a huge challenge considering the size of the country, its cultural heritage from 126 tribes and the vast nature reserves. 

We have investigated the usefulness of Web services in promoting mechanisms to gather and disseminate information about e-Cultural Heritage in Tanzania. In our investigation, we analyzed stakeholders of the sector and realized that Web services can be used to foster mechanisms within specific groups using crowdsourcing techniques. We then proposed specific Web services that cater for information flow chain of Tanzanian's artwork industry and developed an e-cultural heritage portal for demonstration. 

We tested the system with a sample of selected stakeholders and the initial results indicated that the locals’ readiness for such a system is strong enough and that apart from developers benefiting from the Web services, accessibility of information and stakeholders’ visibility will improve.

Plagiarism Detection System for the Kurdish Language

One of the serious issues is plagiarism, especially in the education field. Detecting the plagiarism became a challenging task, particularly in natural language texts. In the past years, some plagiarism detection tools have been developed for diverse natural languages, mainly English. Language-independent tools exist as well but are considered as too restrictive as they usually do not consider specific language features. The problem is there is no plagiarism Detection system for the Kurdish language.  In this paper, we introduce a new system for plagiarism detection for Kurdish Language, based on n-gram algorithm, our system can detect the word, phrases, and paragraphs. Moreover, our system effectiveness for detect plagiarist texts in localhost and online especially in Google search engine. This system is more useful for the academic organizations such as schools, institutes, and universities for finding copied texts from another document.
