An improved active shape model is proposed in this paper. The proposed algorithm includes the following four aspects. Firstly, this paper adopts a semi-automatic facial feature points marking tool. Secondly, this paper proposes to extract 2D gradient feature on the highest level and the higher level of multi-resolution pyramid images, and use Gabor wavelet transformation to extract the lowest level’s 2D texture feature. Thirdly, this paper adopts a new method of decomposition of multi-resolution pyramid. Pyramid images are got by wavelet transformation. Finally, this paper uses an improved searching scheme of multiresolution pyramid. The length of 2D profile searching rectangle is changed according to different pyramid levels. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm exhibits better performance than the original ASM.

Space communication protocol is a challenging problem in the future of space network. Now Mobile IP routing is very popular in the wireless communication network. The research shows the Mobile IP network has the much similar features to the space network. A Space Communications Protocol Specification Network Protocol (SCPS-NP) routing algorithm based on Mobile IP routing is proposed in the paper. Firstly, some basic knowledge about SCPS is introduced. The flooding routing algorithm in SCPS-NP protocol is studied. A new routing algorithmoptimized Mobile IP routing algorithm based on QoS is proposed. In order to verify the effects of the algorithm, A simulation model using NS2 network simulation tools is built and the comparisons between traditional Mobile IP routing and improved SCPS-NP routing are provided. The results show that optimized routing algorithm based on QoS could achieve better performance than traditional Mobile IP. Further, a working prototype based on SCPS-NP Gateway is implemented to test the algorithm’s application. It shows that algorithm based on Mobile IP routing can be used in the future space network.

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijitcs.2010.01.03, Pub. Date: 8 Nov. 2010

Dynamic simulation of waters is a significant research subject, but the research and simulation of the water drops generating ripples is relatively less. The research on the ripples motion is great significance due to the indispensability of it in the special environments. In our research, we study the method of adding dynamic water ripple effects in 2D image on Web page, 3D animation and virtual reality. By the means of shape simulation, we add animation effects for the web page through creating cells of table combined with transparent special effect files of Flash. we achieve the good reality ripple effect by using simple dynamics and kinematic principle to create models in the 3D animation. By using the combination of 3dMax and Realflow software, we achieve more realistic simulation of the effect of dripping ripple. In the virtual reality system, the appropriate algorithm is applied in program to simulate ripples correctly. These methods are applied to different environments and the results are realistic.

Research of CWS’ Particle Size Distribution based on Ultrasonic Attenuation Theory

By WANG Weidong ZHANG Chenglian CHU Fengge

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijitcs.2010.01.04, Pub. Date: 8 Nov. 2010

The key to reduce coal pollution is the development of clean coal technology and the improvement of the backward coal-burning technology. The coal water slurry (CWS) is the first substitute of the oil. The particle size distribution of CWS plays an important role in the quality control of CWS. Now there are three methods that are used to analysis the particle size distribution of CWS, screening method, settlement method, laser method. These methods produce some disadvantages when be used to forecast the distribution of CWS. Thus, this article proposes an ultrasonic method with effective medium theory model which can be accurately reflected in the acoustic attenuation characteristics of coal-water slurry based on structural average. Experimental simulation proved that effective medium model is fully capable of achieving on-line detection of coal-water slurry particle size, for detection of fine-and coarse-sized particle size distribution. Non-linear relationship between attenuation and particle size, the three-frequency method can be used to inverse calculation of its. Which we can achieve CWS granularity on-line, and continuously control the quality of CWS.

A Genetic Programming Framework for Topic Discovery from Online Digital Library

By Yinxing Li Ning Li

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijitcs.2010.01.05, Pub. Date: 8 Nov. 2010

Various topic extraction techniques for digital libraries have been proposed over the past decade. Generally the topic extraction system requires a large number of features and complicated lexical analysis. While these features and analysis are effective to represent the statistical characteristics of the document, they didn't capture the high level semantics. In this paper, we present a new approach for topic extraction. Our approach combines user's click stream data with traditional lexical analysis. From our point of view, the user's click stream directly reflects human understanding of the high-level semantics in the document. Furthermore, a simple, yet effective, piece-wise linear model for topic evolution is proposed. We apply genetic algorithm to estimate the model and extract topics. Experiments on the set of US congress digital library documents demonstrate that our approach achieves better accuracy for the topic extraction than traditional methods.

Performance Analysis of Spatial Reused Bandwidth Reservation in Ad Hoc Networks

By Yuan Li Xing Luo

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijitcs.2010.01.06, Pub. Date: 8 Nov. 2010

In this paper, an approach for spatial reused bandwidth reservation in ad hoc networks is proposed. Resource reservation in wireless networks is an essential component that is needed to support multimedia and real-time applications, such as audio/video conferencing. On the other hand, directional antenna technology provides the capability for considerable increase in spatial reuse, which increases the efficiency of communication. In our approach for spatial reused bandwidth reservation, the source node tries to discover multiple node-disjoint paths that are capable of satisfing the desired Quality of Service (QoS) requirement in ad hoc networks using directional antennas. The simulation result shows the performance of this spatial reused bandwidth reservation approach. There is a significant gain in the performance with a decrease in the number of paths, as well as an increase in the percentage of successfully received data packets and reservation success rate.

Low-power Wireless Pressure Transmitter and Net of Oil-well Based on Zigbee

By Xiwei Yang Changyun Li

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijitcs.2010.01.07, Pub. Date: 8 Nov. 2010

The paper introduced a low-power wireless pressure transmitter for measure pressure and temperature of oil-well. To avoid wiring cables onsite, ZICM2410 was adopted to construct Wireless Sensor Network (WSN), and powered by Li-Ion battery. To reduce the power consumption, MSP430F477 and other low-power chips were used to construct the hardware, and energy conservation strategies were designed in the software. One strategy was turning off the power when some chips or modules were not on duty. Another strategy was working, sleeping and timer waking up. The SNAP wireless network solution of Zigbee was used to compose WSN. By analysis and test, the power consumption of the transmitter is very low, and the transmission range of it could be up to 300m. It could longtime continuously work for the low power consumption ability. The transmitter could fully meet the actual requirements, and could be applied to other industry situations easily.

A Wireless Video Transmission Scheme Based on MAC-independent Opportunistic Routing & Encoding Protocol

By Yong Liu Li Chen Lifeng Sun Shiqiang Yang

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijitcs.2010.01.08, Pub. Date: 8 Nov. 2010

It is a tremendous challenge to transmit real-time video streams over wireless sensor network because of the poor wireless communication conditions and the high requirements of video transmission. The opportunistic routing protocol can take advantage of the broadcast nature of wireless communication and can improve transfer throughput significantly. But the bigger size of transmission unit also increases the end-to-end delay at the same time. In order to overcome this problem and improve the real-time video transmission quality in wireless video sensor network, we propose a source adaptive frame discard algorithm for MAC-independent Opportunistic Routing & Encoding (MORE) Protocol in this paper. In our approach, the historical transmission delay is recorded to estimate current network transmission rate. Based on the video deadline, frames predicted to be delayed are discarded adaptively in the source node to get better overall video quality. In some practice application scenarios, there are usually need to deliver multiple video streams over multi-hop wireless network. It can’t work effectively with the originally MORE protocol in such scenarios. Furthermore, we modify the MORE protocol and design an adaptive scheme to support multiple video streams over multi-hop wireless video sensor network in this paper. The simulation results show that our algorithm can reduce frame loss rate and improve video quality significantly.
