Research on teaching of Java Exception Handling

By Xiaoyuan Zhou

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijeme.2012.09.01, Pub. Date: 29 Sep. 2012

Exception handling is an important and difficult part of the Java programming’s teaching and training. The paper points out and discusses the two outstanding problems in details during teachings, that are how can make students master exactly the basic ideas of exception handling and locations need to be handled by exception handling methods in Java programs. Furthermore proposes a kind of teaching process which gradually shows the puzzles during the learning of students starting from the case by combining the heuristic teaching with the practical case of significance, and figures out step by step the solving methods, namely the knowledge points, which have to be learned about exception handling. Visualization and simplification are their advantages, which facilitates the students’ learning and understanding. The teaching practice shows that the good teaching results have been achieved.

By BAO Li-yong ZHAO Dong-feng ZHAO Yi-fan

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijeme.2012.09.02, Pub. Date: 29 Sep. 2012

With the popularity of network, web is becoming one of the most effective ways in information sharing. However, with the increase of clicking index, a high-function server can hardly meet the increasing demand for service. This thesis provides the schedule strategy in the asynchronous mechanism of multiqueue double servers polling, which is conducted based on theory of polling multi-access and simulation experiments on computer, along with consideration to the load features of Web. It concludes that this strategy enables Web server to take on the features of good extendibility, utility and function.

Exploring the Impact of Innovation between japanese KIBS and Clients

By CAO Yong Li Yang NAGAHIRA Akio

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijeme.2012.09.03, Pub. Date: 29 Sep. 2012

The purpose of this paper is to propose an analytical framework to explain why knowledge intensive business services (KIBS) have become an important strategy for many firms. It will especially examine why the relationships between KIBS and clients are different by analyzing the impact of KIBS for different types of innovation and different divisions, and also what and how the service delivery method contributes to each type of innovation for Japanese manufacturing corporations (JMCs). The results show that firstly, KIBS provide professional knowledge to accelerate the different innovation of their clients; secondly, KIBS contribute more to the radical innovation of a client than incremental innovation; and the thirdly, face-to-face delivery is the most efficient method of service from KIBS to the JMCs.

Research and Implementation on the Flexible Feasibility of AGV Routing

By Cheng-duan Wang

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijeme.2012.09.04, Pub. Date: 29 Sep. 2012

In order to solve the evaluation problem of automated guided vehicle system (AGVS) flexibility, a new feasibility evaluation approach is proposed according to the present research situation. This method can deal with the problem of AGVS rescheduling caused by provisional change of production tasks. The effectiveness of this method is also proved in this paper. Simulation result shows that the method can evaluate the reschedule feasibility under provisional situations. And the prospect of this method is also discussed in this paper. It is proved that the method is efficient and feasible.

Simulation of Leaf Water Status

By Tian-tai GUO Chong-chong GUO Dong-sheng LI Ai-jun CHEN Ming-ming ZHAO

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijeme.2012.09.06, Pub. Date: 29 Sep. 2012

Water state of plants has an important effect on their growth. In this paper, water state of plant leaves were simulated using Fluent, a CFD simulation software, and principles of physiological structure of plant leaf and the water transportation were analyzed through combination of plant physiology and fluid dynamics. Firstly, a simulation model of plant leaves was established in Gambit, a preprocessor software for Fluent; after that, the model was simulated in Fluent; then the results were exported to Tecplot, a post-processing software; finally, three-dimensional data graphics of the distribution of velocity, temperature and pressure were obtained, and analysis on the simulation results were made. The result of this paper is helpful for the further study of plant leaf physiology and future water-saving irrigation.

A Framework of Network Virtual Experiments for Control Courses

By Lu Jianfeng Li Hongjun Ma Yumin

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijeme.2012.09.08, Pub. Date: 29 Sep. 2012

With the development of computer science and Internet, using the virtual experiments to help improvement of teaching effects is becoming more and more popular. This paper describes a framework of virtual experiments for control courses in college. It includes three layers. The user interface layer bases on Flash technology, the data exchange layer bases on Webservice technology, the calculation module in data process layer bases on Modelica language. This framework provides a friendly user interface and solved the problem that the control experiments need multifarious calculation when simulation the real phenomenon. An example of virtual experiment is also be shown in the final of this paper. This framework can also be used for virtual experiments of other courses in college education.

Advantages and Disadvantages of PowerPoint in Lectures to Science Students

By Ding Xingeng Liu Jianxiang

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijeme.2012.09.10, Pub. Date: 29 Sep. 2012

PowerPoint is now widely used in lectures to science students in most colleges of China. We summarize its advantages as producing better visual effects, high efficiency in information transfer, precise and systemic knowledge structure. Disadvantages of PowerPoint may be induced by irrelevant information in slides, neglect of interaction with students, uncontrolled speed in presenting or too strict order of slides. Strategies to avoid these disadvantages are proposed.

An Empirical Study of the Cultivation of Autonomy Through Metacognitive Strategy Training

By Tong Yuping

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijeme.2012.09.12, Pub. Date: 29 Sep. 2012

Many researchers have found that there is an inseparable relationship between learner autonomy and meta-cognitive strategy training, this thesis intends to explore the effectiveness of meta-cognitive strategy training in fostering learner autonomy and English performance in college non-majors learning under the web-based learning environment. The learners involved in the study are classified into two groups, one group accepted the meta-cognitive strategy training. The research adopted questionnaires and final examination achievements to give a quantitative description of the relationship between autonomy and meta-cognitive strategy training and adopted the journals and interviews to give a qualitative description. By using SPSS 13.0 to analyze the data of descriptive statistics, independent samples T-test and qualitative study, the study comes to the conclusions: 1. the meta-cognitive strategy training has a higher effectiveness in promoting the experimental group’s learning performance. 2. on the whole, it’s effective in promotion of the students’ learner autonomy, but not very obvious. The results in five aspects of learner autonomy are different: the training has a distinct effect in promoting the learners’ goal-setting, planning and self-monitoring, and has a unobvious effect on the ability of application of learning strategies, extracurricular studying and self-evaluation. The researcher also argues that through the meta-cognitive strategy training to foster the students’ autonomous learning ability is helpful but not the only means. Under the web-based college English teaching environment, we should explore more different methods to improve the learners’ autonomous learning ability.
